Planting with Nature

Written by Kirsty Wilson (RBGE Supervisor, BBC Beechgrove, Radio 4 Gardeners’ Question Time) and illustrated by me, Planting with Nature is an inspiring and practical guide to the things you can do to encourage wildlife in your garden.

Planting with Nature was released on the 20th April 2023, published by Birlinn Books and The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.

Available now from all the usual places.

The book covers many topics including wildflower meadows, ponds, rain gardens, composting, propagation and planting to attract specific species of wildlife. It is a celebration of the natural world on our doorsteps and inspires the reader to take small steps to support and enjoy the abundant life around us.

To reflect the subject matter, I have taken a lively, vibrant and observational approach to illustrating this book, with a sense of movement, light and space.

Some of the illustrations have taken on another life, and I have used them to design a range of products to accompany the book including notebooks, notecards, mugs and tea towels. These are available exclusively through The Botanics Shop.
